Joseph “Papa Joe” E. Vance, age 78 of Toledo, OH, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH.  Born Nov. 20, 1930 in Columbus, OH, he was the son of Patrick and Alma (Tigner) Vance.  A US Army veteran, he had worked for the former Sharon Manufacturing in Lambertville, MI for 10 years, retiring in 1986.  He was a member of the American Legion, Post 193 in Luna Pier, MI. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving children, Dennis (Linda) Vance, Denise (Randy) Kemp, Chris (Barb), Joseph (Jennifer) and Byron (Lynn) Vance.  Brother, James (Joann) Vance.  Sisters, Margaret (Larry) Armstrong, Fannie Johnston, Lorena (Thomas) DeBruyne, Patricia Nevers, Sharon Russell, Gloria (Gary) Krueger, Diane (William) McCormick, Shirley (Jack) Minton and Joann (David) Cluckey. 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and his little dog, Vancey. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters. 

Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Thursday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm.
