David
Tolly, assistant principal at the Bedford
Junior High School in Temperance, a former
band director and area worship leader passed
away on Sunday, December 22, 2003 in Arbors
at Sylvania. He was 62 years old. Born April
8, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, he was the son of
Rev. Ellis and Helen (Logan) Tolly. David
married Carol Mayhew on August 22, 1959 in
St. Clair, MI. He received his bachelors of
Science in Music Education from Anderson University
in 1964 and his Masters of Educational Leadership
Degree from Eastern Michigan University in
1973.
David was employed for a total 39 years for
the Bedford Public Schools System, teaching
instrumental music for 27 years and the past
12 years as assistant principal at the Junior
High School. David was also a member of both
the National and Michigan Association of Secondary
School Principals, and Emeritus Member of
the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.
He served as worship leader, choir and youth
director for several area churches in the
Monroe County and Toledo area and was currently
attending CrossRoads Community Church in Temperance.
Surviving are his loving wife, Carol. Children,
Daniel (Pam) Tolly of Lambertville, MI, Brian
(Angela) Tolly of Berkley, MI, Kathryn (Andrew)
Jackson of Troy, MI and Benjamin ( Julie)
Tolly of Edwardsville, IL. Mother, Helen Tolly
of Mason, MI and Sister Joyce (Harvey) Anderson
of Mason, MI. Grandchildren, Alexander, Mitchell,
Willow, Winter and Kayla Tolly. David was
preceded in death by father.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Saturday, January 10, 2004 in CrossRoads Community
Church, 1590 W. Temperance Road, Temperance,
MI. Memorials may be made to The David Tolly
