Paul
“Pops” H. Swy, age 76 years of Temperance,
MI, went to be the Lord on October 31, 2007
at Flower Hospital, Sylvania, OH. Born December
5, 1930 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son
of John J. and Martha (Dunn) Swy. He was
a 1949 graduate of Bedford High School,
and a 1954 graduate of University of Toledo.
Paul married Chloe Ann Merickle on June
29, 1952. She preceded him in death on Aug.
1, 1953. Paul then married Patricia Ann
Bennett on October 13, 1956. He and his
partner, Dean Curtis, founded Michigan Tube
Swagers (MTS Seating) in 1955. During the
past 12 years, his role with the company
has been as Chairman of the Board.
Paul
was an active member of many organizations
over the past 50 years including the First
Baptist Church of Temperance, Word of Life
and the Francis Family Y.M.C.A. in Bedford
. Paul's other memberships and affiliations
included the Samaria Lodge, #438, F.&A.M.,
Zenobia Shrine in Toledo, OH, past president
of the McGregor Bay Association, The Monroe
County Chamber of Commerce and the Temperance
Rotary where he was past President and Secretary.
Paul was on the Bedford School Board for
13 years, serving as president from 1968
- 1973 and he was also on the Monroe County
Intermediate School Board for 24 years.
Paul sat on the Board of Regents for The
Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia
and was awarded the John C. Miller Business
Leadership Award from Cornerstone University.
Paul was inducted to the Bedford High School
Hall of Fame in 2002.
Paul
was a deeply religious man and his passion
for his faith, his church and his Savior,
Jesus Christ were the guiding factors in
his life. He was equally committed to his
family, his community and his business.
He will be remembered always as a loving
husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather
and a friend to many.
Surviving
are his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia.
Children, Philip (Denise) Swy of Lambertville,
MI, Peter (Janice) Swy of Temperance, MI,
Perry (Kimberly) Swy of Drummond Island,
MI, and Patrice Swy of Temperance, MI. Grandchildren,
Jansen, Josh, Korry, Kendra, Austin, Matthew,
Amanda, Zechariah, Jerry and Paul. Great
grandson, Isaiah.
Visitation
will be from 6-9 pm Saturday and 2-9 pm
Sunday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral
Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance,
MI. Funeral services will be held Monday
at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church
in Temperance, MI, where he will lie in
state after 10:00 am . Interment will follow
at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo, OH
. Reverend Stephen Sparks, and Dr. James
Mugg, officiating. Memorials may be made
to Word of Life Fellowship, PO Box 600,
Schroon Lake, NY 12870 or the First Baptist
Church of Temperance, MI.
