| Anna
M. Smith, 95, of Lambertville, died Thursday,
April 17 at Lake Park in Sylvania, Ohio.
Born
Sept. 20, 1912 in Redman o Elon and Augusta
(Kinde) Chape, she was the ninh of their
eleven children, but was raised along with
her siblings by her grandparents – August
and Sarah Kinde in Kinde, MI after their
parents died at a young age. She
moved to Detroit as a young woman and worked
as a telephone operator until she met her
husband Russell A. Smith, whom she married
on March 20, 1935 . they settled first in
Detroit, but relocated to Lambertville in
1953 where Anna happily spent the next 55
years. Russell preceded her in death in
1983. Anna
was a devoted mother to her four sons, and
a very dear grandmother to their families.
She enjoyed bowling and traveling, was an
expert card player, playing bridge as an
active member of the Senior Center and with
her bridge club as well as countless hands
of gin with her family. Anna enjoyed politics
as a longtime member of the local Republicans
and with her many years working the polls.
Surviving
are her loving sons, Gegory W. (Lorene)
Smith of Lansing and Russell A. (Melissa)
Smith of Temperance; sister Helen Shoemaker
of California, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons Terry
J. Smith in 2002, and Brian R. Smith in
2004.
Arrangements
were by the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home,
1640 Smih Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI,
where the family will host a memorial visitation
on Sunday, May 11, 2008 from 1 – 3 p.m.
