Fred
Slaviero, age 77, of Temperance, MI, passed
away Sunday, October 19, 2003 in St. Luke's
Hospital, Maumee, Ohio under the care of Hospice
of Northwest Ohio. A World War II Army veteran
who enlisted at the age of 17 and fought bravely
in the Battle of the Bulge, he graduated from
Wayne State University with a bachelor's degree
in civil engineering and a master's degree
in urban planning. He retired from the Macomb
County Road Commission and continued to provide
engineering consulting services throughout
his retirement years.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 43
years, Ernestine; devoted children, Susan
Slaviero and Kevin (Suzanne) Slaviero; granddaughter,
Ashlyn, who was his little sunshine, brother,
Joseph (Sylvia) Slaviero and many dear family
members. Fred will be remembered as a gentle,
kind-hearted person who was devoted to his
family. He is greatly loved and will be immensely
missed.
Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday in
the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith
Road (at Jackman), Temperance, MI. Mass of
Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11:00
a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church,
8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where he
will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Interment
will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials
may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio,
who made Fred's final days as comfortable
as possible for Fred and his family. This
