James “Jim” F. Rosenthal, 86 years of Toledo, OH, died Friday, January 29, 2010 at Kingston Residence of Sylvania. Born October 24, 1923 in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Frank and Katherine Rosenthal. A 1941 graduate of Central Catholic High School, he attended the University of Toledo and the University of Chicago. Jim served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. During WWII he was a Japanese Intercept Operator attached to the 7th Fleet Radio Unit. During the Korean War he served as a Chinese and Russian Intercept Operator. He was a Fireman for the City of Toledo for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed baseball, was a low handicap golfer and was a captain of his bowling team for many years. In 1970 he bowled a 300 game in the all star league at R.C.R. Bowling Center. He traveled extensively throughout the world, particularly in the East European and far Eastern countries. Throughout his life he enjoyed collecting stamps and accumulated an extensive collection. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Toledo and the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association.
He is survived by 3 nephews, Mike, Bob and Richard Rosenthal.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 1:00 pm Monday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. |
