Mildred “Millie” G. Newsome, age 80 years of Lambertville, MI, died Saturday, January 12, 2008 in Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. Born May 21, 1927 in Bude, MS, she was the daughter of John Wellington and Minnie Dove (Runnels) Hollingsworth. She married Frederick B. Newsome on August 23, 1949 in Bude, MS. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2004 . Millie received her Bachelors and Masters in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She taught 4 th grade for over 20 years for Jefferson Public Schools in Monroe, MI. Prior, she taught at St. Mary's Elementary School in Monroe , MI . Millie was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monroe, MI and was currently an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Toledo, OH for the past 23 years.

She is survived by her loving children, David (Mary) Newsome of Trenton, GA, Becky (Bob) Baird of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mark (Beth) Newsome of Ooltewah, TN, Debbie Newsome of The Gambia, Africa, Paul (Cindy) Newsome of Temperance, MI and Mary Newsome of Dominican Republic, Santiago, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm Friday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am. At Emmanuel Baptist Church in Toledo, OH, where she will lie in state after 10:00 am . Rev. Bruce Snyder, officiating. Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gambia Literacy Program.
