Albert “Al” H. Metzger, 81 years of Temperance, MI and formerly of Clark Lake, MI and Acadia, FL, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo Center. Born August 24, 1928 in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Rudolph and Adeline (Pohlman) Metzger. A 1946 graduate of Macomber High School, he married Mary A. Rossbach on July 2, 1949 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. A WWII army veteran, he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Al was employed 35 years with GM Powertrain. He was well known in the Safety Department and retired as the head of the Suggestion Department in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and building miniature houses.
Surviving are his loving wife. Mary. Children, Diane Cook, Patty (Tom) Lammers, Carol (Rick) Toth, Jim (Carol) Metzger and Marianne (Gary) Tarsha. Brothers, Bob (Marlene), Norb (Patt) and Gene (Lou Anne) Metzger. 8 grandchildren, Marc (Katy) Cook, Lauren Cook, Eric (Alexandra) Lammers, Scott Lammers, Carolyn (Matt) Bowe, Kim (Steve) Mumma, A.J. Metzger and Mike (Meghan) Saunders. 3 great-grandchildren, Owen, Cole and Corinne. Al was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, John Cook and in-laws, Norman and Esther Rossbach.
Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Monday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
