Matthew D. Mathias, Sr., age 44 of Temperance, MI and formerly of Swanton, Ohio died suddenly on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009.  Born July 17, 1965 in Toledo, OH, he was the son of David C. and Marilyn J. (Reischman) Mathias.  A 1983 graduate of Bedford High School, he married his 8th grade sweetheart, Laura J. Russell on July 30, 1983 in Toledo, OH.  Matthew was a US Army veteran and was employed by North Star Blue Scope Steel in Delta, OH for the past 9 years.  Matthew enjoyed golfing, hunting, reading, cooking, sports and had a warm quick witted sense of humor.  

Surviving are his loving wife, Laura.  Sons, Matthew D. Mathias, Jr. and Stephen W. Mathias.  Father, David C. Mathias.  Brothers, Michael Mathias and Mark (Lynn) Mathias.  Sisters, Melissa (William) Cook and Michelle Mathias. He was preceded in death by his mother. 

Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm Sunday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 am.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, MI.
