Donald “Don” E. Knaggs, age 80 a lifelong Ottawa Lake, MI resident, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 in his home. Born, May 22, 1930 in Ottawa Lake, MI, he was the son of Ludy and Lucy (LaPointe) Knaggs. A Bedford High School graduate, he served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Gloria Lenart on August 27, 1955 in Toledo, OH. Donald was a member of the bricklayer’s union local 3, and was the sacristan at St. Anthony’s church. He was a strong man of faith and was very actively involved with St. Anthony’s parish his entire life. He took great pride in his garden, enjoyed following Detroit sports and University of Michigan sports, had strong political convictions, but most of all loved his family. He was light-hearted and enjoyed laughing with others, teasing his wife, and loved and respected life. Donald lived by example a great life of faith and love, and leaves behind the legacy of a faithful man, a loving husband, a caring father and wonderful grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, Children Mary Baumann, Charles (Kim), John, and Jim (Ann), grandchildren Sr. Glorea (Kristy), Michelle (Nick) Skolmowski, Daniel, Matt (Amber), Rachel Baumann, Melissa, Stephanie, and Joe Knaggs, numerous nieces and nephews, and best friends Pasquale Diterlizzi and Jim Lemble. Sisters, Anna LaVigne, Rose (Bernard) Brosamer, Letha Holup and Joan (Ed) Young. Brothers, Bob (Gerry) Knaggs, Arnold (Genny) and Melvin (Mary Anne) Knaggs, Roy (Faye) Knaggs and Howard (Bonnie) Knaggs.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Monday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd, (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where a scripture service will be held Monday at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am in St. Anthony Catholic Church in Temperance, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am. Fr. Brian Hurley, officiating.
