Raymond “Ray” L. Katafiasz, age 82 of Lambertville, MI, died Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg Twp., OH. Born August 8, 1928 in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Louis and Josephine (Brilla) Katafiasz. A 1946 graduate of Central Catholic High School, he served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Ray married Virginia “Ginny” E. Gabor on Sept. 26, 1953 in Rossford, OH. He was a wholesale florist for the Toledo Florist Exchange for 43 years, retiring in 1993. He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was the past chairman of the Finance Committee. Ray was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 11430. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, spending winters in Myrtle Beach, SC and spending time with his family.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Ginny. Children, Mark (Diana) Katafiasz, Lynn (Dan) Crosby, Michael (Maureen) Katafiasz and Lori (Julian) Pirrone. 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe Katafiasz and sister, Cecilia Gwozdz.
Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Sunday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where a scripture service will be held Sunday at 7:00 pm followed by the rosary. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday at 3:00 pm at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Temperance, MI. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and St. Anthony Catholic Church. The family wishes to thank Angel, Cheryl and the entire staff from Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care given to Ray during his illness. |
