Roy G. Hawkinson, Jr., age 87 of Lambertville, MI, died Friday, August 27, 2010 in Aspen Grove Assisted Living, Lambertville, MI. Born March 26, 1923 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Roy G. and Hattie F. (Hasse) Hawkinson, Sr. A US Marine Corp veteran of WWII, he married June on December 22, 1945 in Chicago, IL. Roy was employed by the former Pennsylvania Railroad as a freight sales representative and was then a material handling sales representative for several companies until his retirement in 1981. After his retirement, Roy worked part time at the Lambertville Hardware for 7 years, He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Temperance, MI. Samaria Lodge, 438, F&AM, Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite, Zenobia Shrine, where he was past Director and President of the Temple Guards, Toledo Transportation Club, where he was past president, Railroad Toastmasters of Toledo, American Legion, Conn-Weissenberger Post No 587, Lou Diamond Det. Marine Corp League.

Surviving are his loving wife, June. Children, Gary (Patricia) Hawkinson of Avon, OH, Gayle Ann Hawkinson of Jackson, MI and Janet Lynn (Ronald) Burton of Arkansas. 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ralph Hawkinson.

Visitation will be from 2-5 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where the Samaria Lodge #438, F&AM will conduct services at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 am in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Temperance, MI, where he will lie in state after 9:00 am. Pastor Frank Paine, officiating. Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Children Hospitals, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or Erie West Hospice. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff at Erie West Hospice for the loving care given to Roy during his illness.
