| Eugene
"Gene" L. Grady Sr., age 92, of
Toledo , passed away on Friday
December 07,2007, in Hospice of Northwest
Ohio Toledo Center. He was born on
June 28, 1915 in Delphos , Ohio to Aloysius
M. and Anna C. (Koehl) Grady. His parents
both died when he was young and Eugene was
cared for by his Aunt Honora Koehl Kaverman and
his Uncle Lee Grady both of Delphos , Ohio
. He attended both Grade School and
High School at St. John the Evangelist,
Delphos, Ohio. After
moving to Toledo , Ohio he met Rose Marie
Louy and they married in 1937. Gene
served in The United States Navy
during WWII . He was proud of the card
he received when he Crossed the Equator
while on the USST Ship Superior. He also
enjoyed sharing his memories of his time
in Australia . Gene has been a member
of The American Legion of Ohio Post 0110
for 38 years. Gene
was a food salesman for Home Made Box lunch
later known as Dorothy Marie Catering Service
and retired in 1980. Gene's joys
included his family and sports. He
was an avid golfer and had a hole-in-one
on September 5, 1992 at Bayview Golf Course in
Toledo. He enjoyed watching Notre
Dame football and when they didn't win he
would say "wait until next year
they are a young team!" Gene
was a long time fan of the Green Bay
Packers and the Cleveland Indians and following
them by television and radio.
Eugene's
survivors include his daughter, Nancy (David)
Hankenhof and son, Rev. Eugene L. (Linda)
Grady, Jr.; daughter-in-law Hollis Grady;
grandchildren Jane Hankenhof Curry (David),
Tim (Jennifer) Grady, Susan Hankenhof Graham
(John), Anthony (Colleen) Grady, Lynn Marie
Grady (Michael) Trabbic, John (Chrissie)
Hankenhof, Amy Hankenhof (Mark) Rhodes,
Martin Hankenhof and Joshua Grady;
21 great granchildren and step-grandchildren,
and a great-great granchild due in February.
In
addition to his parents, Aloysius and Anna,
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife,
RoseMarie in 1986; sons David Richard and
Gerald; great granddaughter Ashley Graham; twin
great-grandsons Ethan and Owen Hankenhof.
Visitation
will be held on Monday from 3-9
pm at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640
Smith Rd. (at Jackman), Temperance, MI where
scripture services will be held Monday at
7:00 pm. Funeral services will
be Tuesday at 9:15 am in the funeral home,
with Mass of Christian Burial following
at 10:00 am at St. Clement Catholic Church.
Rev. Ed Littelmann, officiating.
Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn
Cemetery .
In
lieu of flowers, those wishing to give contributions
are asked to consider donations to
be made in Eugene's memory to the Hospice
of Northwest Ohio , 30000 E. River Road,
Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 or Donor's Choice.
The
family wishes to thank the wonderful staff
of the Northwest Ohio Hospice. Special
thanks to Cindy (our Angel of Mercy), Jeff
("The Counselor"), Amy (incredible
caregiver).They were all very
special to Eugene and his daughter Nancy
during his long illness. We are
grateful to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio's
physicians, nurses, respite providers, and
aides who touched our hearts. We
appreciate all of your comforting words,
prayers, goodies, phone calls, visits and
hugs. A special thanks also to Marty
(grandson) who was always there for
Grandpa.
