James
L. DeKay, Sr. 62 years of Addison, MI and
formerly of Temperance, MI, died Friday,
December 22, 2006 in his home. Born Dec.
5, 1944 in Toledo, OH, he was the son of
Leland and Margaret (Bladel) DeKay. A 1962
graduate of Clay High School, he married
Harriette Sauer on Dec. 18, 1964 in Monroe,
MI. James was the owner/operator of James
DeKay & Son Custom Homes for the past
40 years, remodeling and building custom
homes in Southwest Michigan and Northwest
Ohio until retiring to Addison, MI in 1999,
where he started a smaller remodeling business.
He and his wife were antique dealers for
several years and he enjoyed refinishing
antique furniture. He was a member of the
former Judson Baptist Church in Toledo,
where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday
School. He was recently attending Rollins
Friends Church in Addison, MI. James was
also a past member of the Board of Director's
for the Toledo Youth for Christ, zoning
ordinance officer for Bedford Township,
Better Business Bureau, The Toledo Home
Builder's Association and the Bedford Business
Association.
Surviving
is his loving wife, Harriette. Children,
James ( Tracy ) DeKay, Jr. of Maumee, OH
and Terri Tucker of Toledo, OH. Sisters,
Diane (Dan) O'Connell of Oregon, OH and
Cathy (Don) Rice of Toledo, OH. 4 grandchildren,
Ashley and Jeremy DeKay and Isaiah and Danielle
Tucker. Jim was preceded in death by his
parents.
Visitation
will be held Tuesday from 3-9 pm at the
Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith
Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where an
informal prayer circle will be held Tuesday
at 8:45 pm. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home
with interment following at Whiteford Union
Cemetery, Whiteford Twp., MI. Reverend Dr.
Robert M. Wisehart, officiating. Memorials
may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
