Ted
quit grade school to help support the growing
family of 7 brothers and 3 sisters. From
the ages of 8 to 13 he picked fruit and
vegetables for a local farmer, Weber's Farm.
At age 14 he began working at Stranahan's
Estates cutting the lawns, gardening, farming,
and grooming show horses. When he turned
16, he worked for Maumee Malleable for only
6 months and then became employed at Willy's
Overland Aircraft as a contour man making
and finishing airplane wings. This job ended
when Ted was drafted into the Army during
WWII at age 18 and he served 3 years. He

. Their first child was born 9 months later.
Ted
learned carpentry and plastering by watching
others while working for his wife's uncle.
He said, “I can do that,” and went on to
start his own business. He then went to
work in the field for John Nauman, then
later for Schlageter & Nauman as an
estimator, moved on to A. A. Boos and Sons,
and retired from The Spieker Co. as an estimater
around 1991.
Ted
proved his knowledge at a very early age
and was willing to share this knowledge
with anyone who was interested. He was a
very brilliant and gifted man with many
talents. He built a Baptismal fountain and
Holy Water fountain at his parish, Our Lady
of Mount Carmel, in Temperance, MI. He reconstructed
a life size statue of the Holy family and
a large crucifix in the church cemetery.
He was an excellent floral designer and
a master at plastering triple cove swirled
ceilings, finish carpentry, making furniture
and painting.
Ted
leaves a legacy to be cherished. He said
nothing was impossible to achieve and he
loved the challenge. His greatest pride
and accomplishment was his home that he
designed, built and landscaped.
Ted
was also a fourth degree member of the St.
Lawrence Council of the Knights of Columbus.
