Betty M. Bates, 65, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 31, 2007 at The Goerlich Center, Sylvania, Ohio. Betty was born March 12, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan to Robert and Betty Deck. Betty graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, MI., and later became employed by Detroit Steel where she met her future husband and best friend, Allan. Together they enjoyed traveling with family and friends to various parts of the world, especially to their favorite destination of Hawaii .

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Allan, father Robert Deck, and mother-in-law Lucille Bates. Left to cherish her memory are her mother Betty Deck, brother Robert (Phyllis) Deck, children Carey (Dan) Ostas, Lisa Jones, Allan (Heather) Bates, special grandchildren Lauren, Maxwell, Kierstyn, Kelsey, Daniel and Natalie. She is also survived by a group of wonderful relatives, father-in-law Charles Bates, brother-in-law John (Sarah) Bates, sister-in-law Arlene (Phil) Toyne, nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Many knew Betty for her love and compassion. She was deeply committed to her family and friends. Betty had a distinct laugh that was contagious to all who knew her. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a friend to many people.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregiver and friend Shelly Immormino.

A spiritual service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Road, Temperance, Michigan. Following the service, a celebration of Betty's life will be held at the Northwood Villa, 6630 S Dixie Hwy, Erie, Michigan.

Betty continues to live in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Allan W. and Betty M. Bates Scholarship Fund, c/o The Bedford Community Foundation, P.O. Box 103, Lambertville, MI 48144.
