Harley A. Barnette, 93 years of Temperance, MI, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at Aspen Grove Assisted Living, Lambertville, MI.  Born April 20, 1915 in Waterville, OH, he was the son of Paul and Bertha (Studer) Barnett.  Harley served as a Lieutenant Col. in the US Army Air Force during WWII. He married Sedohr J. McDonald on July 31, 1942 in Glendale, CA. She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2001. He was a 1937 graduate from OSU with a BS in Education, majoring in mathematics and science. While in the army, he attended and taught weather observer classes.  Harley had taught 7th – 12th grade at Grand Rapids Public Schools in Grand Rapids, OH from 1937 - 1941. He was employed by the former DeVilbiss Company in Toledo for 10 years. After retiring from a career in business, he became active in genealogy; he became founder of Genealogy by Computer Society of Northwest Ohio.  Harley had also taught genealogy by computer for the Sylvania Schools and Bedford Senior Center.  He had received several awards, including the Golden Rule Award by J.C. Penney, FGS Award of Merit, The Oldest Man Trophy at the Monroe County Fair and several photography awards, including “Arts for Our Future Show” purchasing his picture “Fallen Leaf” for the Bedford Public Library Permanent Collection.  He was an active member of the Bedford Senior Center, serving as chairman of the board for several years and serving on various committees though the years.

He is survived by his sons, Rhodes (Tina) Barnette of Jackson, TN and Denley (Ana) Barnette of Derwood, Maryland.  Brother, Robert (Mary) Barnette of Bluffton, OH.  Sister, Helen Dimick of Perrysburg, OH.  5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. 

Friends may call from 2-9 pm Monday at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am.  Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Grand Rapids, OH.  Memorials may be made to the Bedford Senior Center.
