Dr.
Robert Nixon Baker D.V.M., M.A., M.P.H.D.
passed away Wednesday, November 3rd,
2004 in St. Anne Mercy Hospital after a
long
battle with Parkinson's disease, he
was 84 years old. His life began on the
7th
of January 1920, born in Akron, Ohio
to parents Homer and Bertha Baker. He
graduated
from the University of Michigan and
Michigan State. He was a proud and longtime
member
of the A.T.O. fraternity. For four
years Robert served his country during
WWII, stationed
in the Tinian Island and the South
Pacific. He met the love of his life at
a USO show,
Margaret Pilkington, enraptured by
her beautiful legs.
Retired
for 23 years now, Robert was the Chief of
Environmental Health for the Toledo
health Department. He also dedicated 25 years,
working as a Veterinarian for Graber's
Animal Hospital, as well as the Toledo Humane
Society. He was instrumental in the
Feed Your Neighbor program and the HUD Program.
Dr. Baker was an active and devoted
member of the St. Mathew's Episcopal Church,
serving
on the vestry up until his illness.
Robert
was an athletic man, loved swimming
in Lake
Michigan, walking the beach and watching
his beloved Detroit Tigers play. His
love
for handball and tennis was second
only to his passion for golf. He took
great delight
in roving the green after a hard day's
work, and once got a hole-in-one at
the Highland
Meadows Country Club.
Robert
is survived by his caring wife of 60 years,
Margaret D. Baker, who stayed by his side
to the very end. His two loving daughters,
Julia A. Blanton and Shelley L. (Donald)
Miller. He has seven grandchildren whom
he took great delight in up to his very
last day, Ian (Randy) Hinsdale , Haley (Darrell)
Miller-Hunt, Kori Hinsdale, Dusty-Lynn Miller,
Cody Miller and Markie Miller. He also had
one great grand child, Denise Hunt. He
was preceded in death by his parents and
his brother, Professor Dean Baker, as well
as his cherished puppy, George. Services
