Janice M. Akens, 72 passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 25 at St. Anne Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 7, 1939 to the late Henry and Geraldine (Abt) Pellek of Toledo, Ohio. She was a 1957 graduate of Whitmer High School. At one of Jan’s first jobs she met the love of her life, John, while working at The Hop in Toledo. They were married on June 25th, 1960. Jan was also employed at Francis Food in the bakery, in Temperance. She started her career in banking at Standard Federal, (Peoples Federal Savings and Loan) where she held positions as bank teller, and assistant manager/mortgage loan officer until she retired in 2000. Jan’s love of life was visible in her beautiful gardens, the great dinners she prepared and spending time with her family. She loved to spend the winters in their Sebring Florida home, traveling or hitting the nearest casino to play the slot machines. Spring meant time with her best friends Dick and Diane Kaiser when they would head north to Rose City Michigan and get a couple of days of mushrooming in. Jan was a serious mushroom hunter. Summer meant time at Clark Lake with family and friends by her side in the sun or on the water.
Left to cherish her memories is her loving husband of 51 years, John . Children , Jeri (Jim) Rowan, John (Rochelle) Akens, Jody Akens, and Julie Akens(John Kandar).
